Sink or Float Science

A bin of water and household objects — guess first, then test the science.

Steps

1. Fill a clear bin or bowl with water.
2. Gather a mix of small household objects — a coin, a cork, a spoon, a toy, a leaf.
3. Ask your preschooler to guess whether each will sink or float before dropping it in.
4. Test each one and sort them into “sink” and “float” piles based on the results.

Talk about why — weight and material both matter — but keep it casual and led by their curiosity.
