Simple Sewing Cards (Yarn Through Holes)

⏱ Prep time: 10 min 🎨 Mess level: Low mess

Cardboard shapes with hole-punched edges for lacing yarn — an early sewing skill.

Steps

  1. Cut simple shapes out of cardboard or cardstock and punch holes around the edges.
  2. Tie a length of yarn to a large plastic sewing needle, or wrap tape around the end for stiffness.
  3. Show your preschooler how to lace the yarn in and out of the holes.
  4. Let them finish the pattern at their own pace, tying off the end when done.

Notes

This builds real fine-motor control for future scissors and pencil work.
