Cardboard Loom Weaving
A notched cardboard loom and yarn — a first taste of weaving in and out.
Steps
- Cut evenly spaced notches along the top and bottom of a rectangle of cardboard.
- Wrap yarn vertically around the notches to create the “warp” strings.
- Give your preschooler a large plastic needle, or yarn with the end wrapped stiff, to weave horizontally over and under each string.
- Keep weaving row by row until the loom is full, then slide the finished weaving off.
Notes
Choose thick, chunky yarn in bright colors — it’s easier to grip and shows the pattern clearly.
