Cake Decorating

A plain cake, some frosting, and sprinkles — a hands-on lesson in creativity, and patience with frosting.

Steps

1. Bake or buy a plain cake and let it cool completely.
2. Set out bowls of frosting, sprinkles, and any small candy decorations.
3. Let your preschooler spread frosting with a butter knife or spatula, mess and all.
4. Add sprinkles and decorations together, then admire, and eat, the finished creation.

Notes

A crumb coat is optional here — this is about the process, not a picture-perfect cake.
